The Rainbow Retreat

 Activities

snow gearFloral Park is located just South of Washago on Lake Couchiching.  Access to the lake at the public dock across the road is enjoyed year around, and guests can go swimming, canoeing or paddle-boating, as well as cross country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, or snow shoeing.  Trails through the woods to a beaver dam and hidden pond can also be enjoyed in all seasons.

There are also many country roads to use for bike trips, including seeing the emu.  Have a boat?  Take a day trip through the locks to the famous Marine Railway.

hot tub
The hot tub, available 24 hours a day, is a wonderful way to begin the morning, end the evening, or to take the chill out of a cold winter day.  It can used when reading a book while the snow is swirling, or as a way to get to know your friends better.  The adjoining outdoor patio is perfect for summer meals, or as an afternoon or evening snack area.

Horseshoes, softball and volleyball can be played in the community field next door while the children are happily occupied in the playground.

pond
Many guests just love to sit and relax while watching the frogs and goldfish in the frog pond.  Some guests have even stroked the frogs gently!

Indoors there is a Games Room for pool, table games, and can also be converted into a dance area.  With its large picture window overlooking the frog pond, the Family Room is used for quiet relaxation and indoor group gatherings.

riverUse The Rainbow Retreat as your home base while you do day excursions into lovely Muskoka. Visit Muskoka Wildlife Centre (10 minute drive), Haliburton Forest for dog sledding or the canopy walk through the tree tops (90 min drive), Segwum boat ride on Lake Muskoka (20 min drive), Dorset Fire tower (90 minute drive), Stephen Leacock Home (20 minute drive), and many other attractions.

See links for information regarding area attractions and special events.

"It was a great weekend, again.  The trip on Sunday to the Haliburton Forest for dog sledding and to see the wolves was fantastic!" ~ B&B Guest

****Special Times at The Rainbow Retreat****

AUGUST WEEKEND   Because of the Floral Park Field Day which is lots of fun, this is a good weekend for families with children of all ages.  There are field and water competitions which Rainbow Retreat guests can participate in.  Lots of medals to be won, including a colouring contest for kids!

LABOUR DAY WEEKEND  and the week preceding it are reserved for older lesbians and people identifying as older lesbians.  This is a low cost week (only $25 a day)  with much of that cost going into a common food kitty.  The group does its own shopping out of the food kitty money, and breakfast is supplied.

THANKSGIVING WEEKEND is a long standing tradition with hikes to the beaver dam, an afternoon at the Pow-Wow in Rama, and a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner.  This is a full meal weekend with home made pies!

CHRISTMAS/NEW YEARS WEEK is a wonderful time to relax with your kids, or spouse, or friends.  Tobaggoning  on the hills at the school, skating at the outdoor rink in Washago, X-C skiing at the KOA in Gravenhurst, snow shoeing through the woods, and the hot tub to rest those weary muscles!   You can enjoy this all winter long.

Winter Activities at The Rainbow Retreat

The Rainbow Retreat is open year around.  Come and experience the stillness which follows the blanketing of freshly fallen snow.  Come and enjoy outdoor activities, followed by a relaxing soak in the hot tub!  The BBQ is set up in the shelter for use through the winter months!  Has the odor of grilled chicken over reached you over the snow?  It is special.

Bring your kids, and go tobaggoning, or walk on the lake. Skate at the outdoor rink in Washago. Make use of the X-C ski rentals and trails at the KOA in Gravenhurst.  Downhill skiing?  Horseshoe Valley is only 40 minutes away, and Mt. St Louis-Moonstone just a bit further.  Make snow people, or a snow sculpture, or a snow house!  Come and have fun, enjoy the winter, again.

Come with a group of friends of 10 or more and enjoy a special discount.
